Developer AES Gener plans to invest $1.8 billion over the next four years in renewable energy projects in Chile and Colombia, including 1.1GW of wind projects. The company, a subsidiary of US utility AES Corp, signed power deals to supply 8.1TWh annually with clients in Chile and Colombia, including mining company Teck, oil firm EcoPetrol and internet giant Google. These will come into force by 2023.
According to the Chilean Copper Commission, 44 mining projects, which together represent an investment of $72.5-billion, will start operations between 2019 and 2028. The Antofagasta region of northern Chile leads the list, accounting for 34% of the total expected investment, and 96% of the investment in this region will be in copper.

Chilean fresh fruit exports reached 1.09 million tons so far this season 2019-2020, 4.8% less than last season. The drop is mainly due to the reduction in shipments to the U.S. market which fell by 23% and was not offset by the 10.3% increase in shipments to the Asian market.
In line with the optimism of global markets, IPSA, the main index of the Santiago Stock Exchange, rose 1.79% to 4,366.36 points. The rebound occurred despite the confirmation of cases of coronavirus in the country.
