Chilean miner SQM said the coronavirus outbreak had yet to hit its lithium output, but warned it might have to scale back plans for 2020 if a slump continues in demand for the coveted battery metal. The world's No. 2 miner of lithium had planned to unleash at least $330 million in 2020 to expand production capacity out of Chile's Atacama salt flat, according to SQM board chairman Alberto Salas.

Latam economies struggle with massive deficits from coronavirus shock
Latin America’s biggest economies, Brazil and Mexico, will likely struggle with increasing deficits this year as governments are forced to fight recessions sparked by the coronavirus pandemic, a Reuters poll showed. The economies of Colombia and Perú will likely fare much better, falling less than their big neighbours this year and picking up faster in 2021. Chile will probably make up for all the lost production, while Argentina just half of it.
Falklands/Chile commercial airlink will remain suspended until June
Flights to the Falkland Islands, from Chile and Brazil remain suspended. LATAM has confirmed that the Saturday schedule Mount Pleasant-Punta Arenas-Santiago air service will not be operating in May. There has been an agreement between the Falkland Islands Government and LATAM to continue the suspension of the Sao Paulo Wednesday schedule until 14 May.
Banks approves more than 800,000 credit extensions to anyone affected by COVID-19
Since March, banks have approved more than 800,000 extensions of consumer, mortgage and SMBs loans affected by the impact of COVID-19. According to the Association of Banks and Financial Institutions (ABIF), the figure corresponds to 92% of applications received.
