Startup Chile, the Chilean government-backed accelerator led by Sebastián Díaz Mesa that provides $40,000 equity-free funding to bring foreign entrepreneurs to the Southern Cone, announced that the program has accelerated 1,960 startups from 85 countries, created 7,241 jobs in the country, and raised over 17 times the amount of capital originally invested by the government.
Through this non-cash deal, Carla Rodríguez, TodoVa’s Founder and CEO will now become the Country Manager of Chazki in Chile. The Peruvian startup found the right fit for its businesses in TodoVa’s Founder and saw an opportunity in TodoVa’s already-established fleet of deliverers. For Rodríguez, the acquisition meant the opportunity to sustain itself, grow within its native Chile and have a more regional impact.
The global copper market is headed for a surplus of between 200,000-300,000 tonnes in 2020, the head of miner Antofagasta told Chilean media, with operation halts at some mines offsetting depressed demand due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Miami-based Hispanic prodco BTF Media has expanded its presence in Latin America and opened a new office in Santiago headed by Emmy-winning producer, director and writer Hernán CaffieroCaffiero with support from the company’s founders, Francisco Cordero and Ricardo Coeto. The company already has bases in Mexico, Argentina and Spain as well as the US.
The President of the Chilean National Chamber of Automotive Commerce (Cavem), Carlos Dumay, described the current situation caused by the coronavirus as the "worst crisis" for the automotive sector. He explained that due to the uncertainty there is a drop in sales of about 67% annually.
