AES Gener has taken an important step in developing a mammoth hybrid renewable energy project in Chile, after it has submitted the environmental impact statement for its planned 862.5MW wind-solar-storage hybrid Parque Terra Energía Renovable project. The Parque Terra Energía Renovable project will consist of 350MW of wind, using fifty 7MW turbines, and 512.5MW of solar PV, made up of 1,102,080 bifacial panels mounted on trackers. Set to be located in the commune of Taltal in Antofagasta, the project will require investment of $750 million.
Engie Energia Chile SA is planning to boost the capacity of its Vientos del Loa wind farm project to around 204.6 MW from the initial 126.5 MW. The company said it has submitted the environmental impact statement (EIS) for the upgrade, seeking to install 33 units of 6.2-MW wind turbines in the commune of Calama, in Chile’s Antofagasta region. The total investment in the proposed scale-up is estimated at around $246 million.
Copper soared 2.68% on the London Metal Exchange and closed at its highest level since June 2018, surpassing $3 a pound for the first time in more than two years. The red metal, Chile's main export product, ended today's session at $3,0241 per pound, compared to $2,9449 yesterday. This is the highest value of the commodity since June 2018, when it traded at $3,0334.
Chilean President, Sebastian Piñera, said that more than one million people had received the government’s $626 spot payment, aimed at staving off the economic effects of the pandemic, and it had approved more than 550,000 requests for soft loans of up to $815.
Since March, gasoline hadn't increased in Chile. However, after 23 weeks, the National Petroleum Company (ENAP) announced that the price of gasoline will rise. According to a weekly report from the company, the 93 octane gasoline will rise by CH$6 per liter, while the 97 will do so by CH$0.4.
