Hortifrut builds Chile’s first floating solar plant

Berry giant Hortifrut has inaugurated its first floating solar panel plant at its farm in Santa Teresa de Agrícola Mataquito in Chile’s Region V. This is the company’s eighth solar farm and the first floating facility in Chile to be connected to the electricity grid. In all, the company plans to have 18 solar farms in operation by the first quarter of 2021.

Solarpack registered a net profit of $5.7 mn in the first half of 2020

Spanish solar company Solarpack Corporacion Tecnologica SA arrived at a net profit of €4.8 million ($5.7 million) in the first half (H1) of 2020, compared to €626,000 recorded a year earlier. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) jumped by 226% year-on-year to €31.9 million, while operating revenues surged by 191% to €78.8 millions. Solarpack had stakes in 545 MW of solar parks located across Spain, Peru, Chile and India.

52% of households have lost income due to the covid-19 pandemic

Significant loss of income in most households, fear of losing a job or not having a way to pay a medical bill, and support for how the State has helped during the crisis in the midst of the pandemic appear as some of the key findings of UC Bicentennial National Survey (Encuesta Nacional Bicentenario UC). The survey, which is conducted every year, revealed, among other figures, that 52% of households have had their income affected, while the most affected group is migrants, with 65%.

Copper’s outlook buoyant as demand increases

Fitch Solutions Country Risk and Industry Research has adjusted its 2020 copper price forecast upwards from $5 900/t predicted in March to $6 000/t as demand is supported by the Chinese government’s stimulus and recovery in global economic activity. In its outlook for copper prices update, the average price forecast for 2021 has also been raised to $6 300/t from $6 100/t.
