The Chilean National Energy Commission (CNE) has announced that an auction for the contracting of 2.31 TWh of renewable energy will be launched in May. According to the preliminary bidding terms, the selected projects must start delivering power to the Sistema Interconectado Central and Sistema Interconectado del Norte Grande electricity networks on January 1, 2026. These plants will supply electricity under 15-year power purchase agreements for 2026-2040. The auction will also include the option of deploying storage systems.
Today, around 60,000 health care workers in Chile began a national strike for an indefinite period of time after eight months of negotiations with the authorities without a response to their demands. The National Federation of Health Workers (Fenats) said that the strike is not only aimed at recognizing their rights but also at increasing the reduced budget for 2021, since 80% of Chileans receive care through the public system.
Chile’s copper production will likely rise by 0.6% to 5.82 million tons in 2020 and 5.99 million tons in 2021, according to Cochilco. Cochilco estimated that the copper price will average $2.75 per pound in 2020, and could rise to $2.90 per pound in 2021.

Previously, MFS Meridian Funds were available through certain private placements through a select number of distributors in Chile.
Tesoro Resources adds “significant scale” to Ternera as drilling continues around the clock at the priority target within its flagship El Zorro gold project in Chile. The company has received more assays from step out drilling at Ternera with further wide mineralised zones intercepted. Gold mineralisation at Ternera has now been confirmed over 700m by 800m – extending from surface and extending for more than 350m depth.
