Independent power producer Sonnedix Power Holdings Ltd as acquired a 150-MWp photovoltaic (PV) project in Chile from solar developer RTB Energy. Named Sonnedix Pelequen, the project is currently in development, with the beginning of construction expected by the middle of 2022. The parties have agreed to co-develop the project.
Chile’s state-owned Codelco said it had reached a labor agreement ahead of schedule with the union of supervisors at its Chuquicamata mine. The 36-month agreement becomes valid on April 1. The company agreed to a signing bonus worth nearly $5,000 but did not increase worker’s salaries.
Pampa Metals Corp. announced that the company has initiated geophysical surveying at its Arrieros copper project in northern Chile. Pampa Metals has started to acquire Resistivity and 3D Vector Induced Polarization (VIP), together with Magneto-Telluric (MT) and ground magnetic measurements over the 14,000-hectare property. Geophysical data acquisition is being carried out by SouthernRock Geophysics (SRG), a Chile-based geophysical contractor with decades of experience in the acquisition of geophysical data.
In its second estimate, the Cherry Committee of the Chilean Fresh Fruit Exporters Association (ASOEX) projects greater growth compared to its first estimate (310,352 tons) on November 9th. The committee indicates that the production and export of fresh cherries is now estimated at 316,184 tons, reflecting an increase of 38.3% when compared to 2019-2020.
Strong promotable volumes of Chilean blueberries are expected to be available in January and February. According to Karen Brux, from the Chilean Fresh Fruit Association of North America, The Chilean Blueberry Committee is projecting 111,500 tons of total fresh blueberry exports which is 2% higher than last season. Despite this slight increase, the current volumes exported are lower than this time last year due to a slower maturation of the berries caused by cooler temperatures.
