The value of Chile’s salmon exports reached $4.4 billion in 2020, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, placing the commodity at the top of the country’s food exports and in second place for exports overall. Salmon exports represented 46% of total food exports, 12.4% of exports of non-copper goods and 6.1% of Chile's total exports. However, the amount of salmon exported in dollar terms was 14.6% lower than in 2019.
The Cost of Living Index for Executives in Regions (ICVE) showed an average increase of 3.4% in 2020, according to a report by the Centre for Economic and Business Studies for the Universidad del Desarrollo. Santiago is first in the ranking of the most expensive regional capitals in terms of cost of living, with $3,639,311.
South African miner Gold Fields has begun construction of the mining infrastructure at the $860m Salares Norte open-pit gold mine in northern Chile. Construction work on the project is planned to be completed in late 2022, with production planned to start in early 2023. Once commissioned, the mine will have the capacity to process two million tonnes of ore annually to produce doré gold.
Fitch Ratings has affirmed Enel Chile S.A.'s Long-Term Foreign and Local Currency Issuer Default Rating (IDRs) at A-. The Rating Outlook is Stable. In addition, Fitch has affirmed the Long-Term National Scale rating at AA+. The Outlook was changed from Positive to Stable.
