As of 5 February, the pension fund administrators (AFPs) paid $33.32 billion for the first and second withdrawals of pension funds. According to the AFPs, 10.55 million applications were registered for the first withdrawal, of which 97.6% were paid, representing an outlay of $19.31 billion. For the second withdrawal, 7.41 million people applied and 95.1% were paid, i.e. the AFPs spent a total of $14.01 billion.

Central Bank recorded a net loss of $242.39 mn in 2020
The Central Bank of Chile recorded a net loss of Ch$175.76 billion ($242.39 million) in 2020. The bank's financial statements indicate that it had negative equity of Ch$1.74 trillion ($2.4 billion) in 2020. In terms of size, the institution's balance sheet grew 83% over the period to represent about 31% of GDP in 2020 (16% in 2019).
Chile to expel more than 100 illegal immigrants as border crisis grows
Chile will expel more than one hundred Colombian and Venezuelan migrants who entered the South American nation across its remote northern border, the interior minister said. The government’s decision comes after two migrants died earlier this month of exposure after entering Chile from Bolivia through a highland pass in the Andes Mountains.
Nova Royalty Corp to buy existing royalty on Chile copper project for $16 mn
Nova Royalty Corp is set to acquire an existing royalty on Los Andes Copper Ltd's Vizcachitas project in Chile and that it had increased its convertible debt facility with Beedie Capital. Nova must pay $6.5 million in cash upfront on closing and up to $9.5 million in its shares, upon the achievement of certain project milestones. Closing of the deal is expected to occur by March this year.
15% of hotels in Chile at risk of bankruptcy
Around 15% of hotels in Chile could go bankrupt due to the impact of the COVID-19 crisis. The president of Hoteleros de Chile, Alberto Pirola, said that a government aid package is being awaited, but has not yet been presented.
