The Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, announced that new restrictions for travelers will be put in place. They will be applicable for travelers coming from anywhere in the world, as well as some additional measures for travelers coming from Brazil. According to Saturday’s report, 7,084 new cases of COVID-19 were registered, breaking the single day record of 6,938 recorded last June.
A new shipment carrying 2 million doses of the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Chile on Sunday. This is the sixth COVID-19 vaccine shipment arriving in Chile. The doses will be distributed throughout the country and will allow the vaccination campaign against COVID-19, which began on March 3rd, to continue. With this new shipment, the total number of vaccines, including those from Sinovac and Pfizer-BioNTech, received in Chile to date is more than 13 million.
The Chilean government has already granted concessions for new geothermal energy projects on more than 43,000 hectares. This indicates the country's massive potential for this source of energy. Chile has the potential to add 3,800 MW of geothermal energy that can be used for heating, electricity, or even agriculture, but for now it’s still largely unexploited. Geothermal energy could become far more widespread in the coming years, as outlined in Chile’s national plan to reduce greenhouse gases.
Pacific Hydro is seeking an environmental permit to increase the capacity of its solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Atacama, Chile, from 120 MWp to 293 MWp. The company has made modifications to the design of its Central Desierto de Atacama project and plans to occupy more surface to add a total of 518,904 solar modules. Pacific Hydro would invest $300 million in the project. The expanded project would now take up 394 hectares of surface area in the commune of Tierra Amarilla in the Atacama region.
Rental values in Greater Santiago have fallen by 40%, compared to the months before COVID-19, according to a study by Colliers International. In 2020, vacancies reached 8.7%, well above the 4.7% recorded at the end of 2019.
