Engie to supply renewable power to Chilean miner

Engie Energia Chile SA has signed a four-year agreement to supply 100% renewable power to mining company Cemin Holding Minero. The Chilean utility group will supply 1.48 GWh of certified green electricity per year to meet the demand of the underground gold mine and processing plant Minera Pullalli, located in La Ligua, the Valparaiso region. Thanks to the agreement, the Pullalli operations stand to avoid the annual emission of approximately 1,090 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2).

Chile urges copper miners to intensify pandemic measures

The Chilean government has urged the mining industry to step up measures to protect staff from the Covid-19 pandemic as the South American country suffers a massive surge in new cases. The number of new coronavirus cases reported daily in Chile has soared to over 8,000, up from 2,000 last December, putting the country's health service under unprecedented strain.

Accicona seals renewable PPA with Chilean telecom Movistar

Spanish group Acciona SA has signed a long-term contract to supply 100% renewable energy power to Movistar Chile. Acciona will deliver 108 GWh of clean energy to power 40% of the buyer's total network in the South American country. Movistar Chile will be able to avoid more than 42,400 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year. Supply will come from Acciona's 684-MW portfolio of operating wind and solar assets in Chile.
