Sonnedix Power Holdings Ltd has closed financing for a 160-MWp solar project in Chile, alongside its joint-venture partner Cox Energy America SAB de CV. The solar energy companies secured $120 million from Sumitomo Mitsui Bank Corporation (SMBC) to fund the development of the Sonnedix Meseta de Los Andes solar PV project. The transaction was closed via their joint venture Sonnedix Cox Energy Chile, in which Sonnedix holds 70%, while its partner owns the remaining 30%. Once the plant starts operation, it will be capable of producing over 385 GWh of power per year.
Austral Gold Limited has discovered two new gold-silver rich veins at Amancaya Mine in Chile following the receipt of new assay results from 11 drill holes. The Oeste Vein has been intersected by two core diamond drill holes with best results of: 2.41 metres at 0.19 g/t gold and 55.2 g/t silver; and 1.17 metres at 24.98 g/t gold and 77.3 g/t silver. Four core diamond drill holes have intersected the Este Vein with the two new intercepts of: 4.27 metres at 7.81 g/t gold and 33.0 g/t silver; and 1.8 metres at 3.1 g/t gold and 1.5 g/t silver.
The Chamber of Deputies approved two bills: one that creates a one-time tax on high net worth and one that creates a mining royalty. Both initiatives received 18 votes in favor, all of the opposition and 13 against which were from the ruling party.
Chile's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew 0.3 % in the first quarter of 2021 compared to the same period of the previous year, in the middle of the second wave of the pandemic that pushed the health system to the limit and forced to confine a large part of the country, according to the Central Bank.
A total of $48,021 million had mobilized the Chilean pension system until May 14, to pay members and beneficiaries their resources in the three retirement savings processes. Accounting for all 3 withdrawals, the pension fund managers (AFPs) had carried out 23,506,943 payment operations up to the aforementioned date. For the first withdrawal, 10,656,408 affiliates and beneficiaries received an average amount of $1,416,934. For the second withdrawal, 8,048,294 people have received their payments, with an average amount of $1,471,639. For the third withdrawal, the average amount paid per person is $1,475,550.
In March, 22.4% of workers carried out work remotely or under the modality of teleworking. This type of work is concentrated among workers in the Information and Communications (81.8%), Education (75.9%), Electricity and Gas Supply (51.5%) and Financial and Insurance Activities (49.6%) sectors. This is according to the complementary bulletin COVID-19 of the Remuneration and Labour Cost Survey, from December 2020-March 2021, published by the National Institute of Statistics.

This is 11 percentage points higher when compared to the results of the same study in 2019. Lithium Chile Inc. announced that it has added an Argentinian lithium salar property to its portfolio by entering into a binding Letter of Intent (LOI) with SMG S.R.L. of Jujuy, Argentina. The LOI enables Lithium Chile to earn up to an 80% interest in the 233 Sq Km Salar De Arizaro located in Salta Province, Argentina. The LOI also gives Lithium Chile the opportunity to earn a large and dominant land position in the centre of the largest undeveloped salar in Argentina.
Appian Capital Advisory has agreed to sell its royalty interest in the Chile-based Caserones copper mine to Nomad Royalty. Under the deal, Appian will sell a 0.28% net smelter return royalty on the Caserones mine, which is operated by Minera Lumina Copper Chile. The deal consideration includes $23m in cash to Appian, as well as two million common share purchase warrants of Nomad.
Bastion Minerals has wrapped up a high-resolution airborne magnetic survey at its Cometa Copper Project in northern Chile. After processing and interpreting 1330-line kilometres of data from the survey, Bastion identified multiple high-priority copper targets. This work highlights large-scale alteration zones that are associated with existing high-grade copper surface samples. The company will refine the data from the newly discovered targets to help to identify more targets for future field work.
